Me and Nick have agreed to let his younger sister Elizabeth come and live in the top room.
For a couple of reasons.
1) It is empty
2) To give her the opportunity to prove herself Independent & Responsible
Christine now lives in a 2 bedroom small flat with her, Elizabeth (who doesnt pay any rent) & Rosina whos in her prime ripe age of 13, so
3) is to give Christine a break
4) to finally give Rosina her own room and of course Beth as well
She is paying us £100 every 4 weeks considering she only makes £375 every 4 weeks working as a trainee hairdresser 4x a week and does 1 day of college. She works all day Saturday, Wednesday night, has Thursday & Sundays off and she also stays at her boyfriends once in a while.
So the arrangement doesnt sound all to bad.
She also has to
- cook 1 meal a week (this is coming from a girl who couldnt boil water to make instant noodles) but swears she can do pasta
- vacuum whole house and mop hardwood floor every fortnight
- clean the bathroom (sink, tub, toilet & floor) every fortnight
- do her own laundry
- wash dishes if she hasnt cooked (this is a joint effort as I am still trying to get Nick to do that)
So far shes cleaned the bathroom (so she says) although when I went in there, the taps were still spotty (she says she cleaned the taps with the glass cleaner?) and there was dirt in the bottom of the tub so she says that the cleaner didnt work? What? and that she cleans the sinks at work all the time and that cleaner works and ours doesnt. Even tho Nick gave it a spray and wipe to show her and it seemed to work fine. I also had to tell her to use the rough side of the sponge.
Elizabeth is almost 20.
Ill let her get on with it and if she doesnt clean it properly next time I will haveto make her do it again...and again until its clean. Do I sound like Dad with the kitchen stove yet? I am not this anal about taps being cleaned but it is so easy to spray and wipe that it makes me want to cry when she says shes done it and clearly she probably just hasnt.
I cant wait till she mops the hardwood floor. Is she even capable of doing her own laundry?? Is this a huge mistake letting her move in when we could probably rent the room out for £500/pm??
We can always just kick her out if its really not working but I really dont feel the rules are that hard to follow.
On the upside of things, Nick still hasnt drank since New Years with the exception of his little sis' 18th over the weekend. He even played football yesterday and instead of drinking pints of beer he had a pint of coke. He's also set out to actually do the-all-talked-about exams that he has been putting off for a total of 2 years. He starts them tonight. And he even used his gym membership last week that hes been paying £25/m for for a year. Did I mention hes been paying £25/m for his gym membership and this is the first time hes used it in 12 mths? Thats a total of £300. Enough said.
I also havent drank since New Years. Being ill did put me off but even last weekend at Becky's 18th I could only down 3 white wine spritzers and on the Sat only 1 small glass of red wine.
I think its a bit easier for me though.
so Cheers Big Ears!

Ha Ha... so let me guess... that last line is one of those english internal rhymes... right????? that is hilarious!!!! When i had those boys staying with me and they had chores to do that they didn't do well.... first i stood over them and watched while they did it (giving them obvious hints), and then if it still wasn't done they got points taken off their charts and didn't get their full allowance. For her you could add money onto her rent for a job undone or done badly. Whatever your time is worth when you have to do it. Hey!!!!! sounds like you have a kid!!!! ha ha ha 'scuse me if i'm laughing excessively!!!!
