My boyfriend is smart. I love him for it. But cant help but get defensive when I feel hes giving me a pep talk on safety. Even if I probably deserve it.
I admit, I am naive. Ok, a little more than Id like to admit and in some ways I do feel I have some street sense as in when Im walking down an empty street I take the headphones out of my ears and am on guard or to cross the street if theres a group of teens hanging out or....not getting suckered into a sale...ahem. And when Nick hears about some danger I could have put myself into, his protective instincts take over. Maybe I underestimate him a little. Hes smart and Im just to nice.
Yesterday for example. On my way to work, around the corner from my house a girl, late teens, a bit rough but obviously looking distressed stopped me and gave me a teary eyed sob story how shes really embarrased but just got kicked out of her house because she just found out she was pregnant and her and her mom just had an argument and she feels like she could kill herself coz shes in such a mess...I wasnt sure if she wanted money or a place to stay....in the end asked me for some money so I got out my wallet to see what change I had and only had 50p which wasnt enough and in the end she walked away.
The first thing Nick asked me was Did I get my wallet out in front of her?
I guess you dont think of these things while your doing them but next time, I will be more than aware of it.
Next thing I know, last night, Im waiting for Nick to come home, theres a knock on my door. Its an Indian man in a suit. Very soft spoken he tells me hes from Southern Gas and that Im paying 14.4% for my gas when I should be 12% and if could do a meter reading...blah blah blah. I dont know what I was thinking but I let him in even though I didnt feel right about it. Guess I was feeling risky or something. As soon as he walked in, I called Kim and made small talk. Then he asked me for my gas bill so I went up to (pretend to get it) and called Nick. Nick made me put the guy on the phone and basically told him to get out. So he left.
After he left, I had time to think about what I just did. I also called Mr and Mrs H down the road to warn them that a man was coming round to theirs in a suit doing meter readings. Need to protect the pensioners. First thing Mrs H said to me was, 'You didnt let him in the house did you?' I guess I underestimate her as well.
Obviously he was a sales man, I couldve signed the paper and been doing gas with a new company without even knowing it (which is usually a scam). He was also in a business suit whereas if someone comes to read your meter, hes usually in overalls with a METER READER and even then you dont haveto let him in. I dont think I wouldve normally let anyone in but since I did, I dont have any excuse. Nick said I did the right thing by calling him.
I feel I should get a star on my star chart or something. Why am I such a kid?
Ill be the laughing stock when Nick tells his friends. My excuse? Im Canadian. Im nice. (and a little stupid but we wont mention that!)

Hey... you and your brother are the same... except he actually signed up for the thing and their next bill was sky high. So Amanda freaked out cause the thing wasn't even in Bens name so how were they able to do that????
MUM
its true....im a moron. They told me they were locking me in where I am at so my bill won't go up when gas does....well 5 months later I get a bill that is like 80 dollars higher because they locked me in alright but at a much higher rate than I was at..amanda was furious because the bill is in her name and she caled and tyold them that I have mno signing power of her account and they filed an appeal and got denied. We are still fighting it. Anyways thats my story
is your gas meter not on the outside of your house???
Like brother like sister. The meters are usually under the stairwell or something inside the houses here. Good thing I didnt sign anything!
